Default An Epic Symphony - Senior Trophy 2008 - 15-04-2008, 09:20 AM

Just to confirm to any bands taking part in the Senior Trophy playing An Epic Symphony, that we use the new parts but a re-written second movement, which should have been sent to all competing bands by now.

We had a proper look through the second movement last night - and discovered that after all the effort made to re-write, print and send out the new music it is in fact wrong. It's a bar too short! Trying to be as un-boring as possible, fig. 14 onwards should be:

2/4 bar (crotchet rest, crotchet bdrum) - 4/4 bar (crotchet rest, crotchet bd, minim rest) - THIS BAR AGAIN (4/4 crotchet rest, crotchet bd, minim rest) - then the rest as written (penultimate bar crotchet rest, bd crotchet, crotchet rest, bd crotchet) - last pause bar.

Hope everyone is having fun preparing their various pieces, I'm slightly jealous that I'm not with the same band as I was last year so don't get to play Vienna Nights, but am quite enjoying not having the pressure! See you all there

This brings up an issue I've been having problems with for a while now: -

Why do publishers get away with sending out wrong parts having not checked them fully before they get posted? Admitting you got it wrong in the first place is bad enough, but then to send out a revised copy and get it wrong again just seems ludicrous.

Why can't publishing companies get the parts right the first time and not waste a lot of rehearsal time for people having to perform the pieces? There is now only 3 weeks until this piece has to be performed at a contest and all of the rehearsal time put in before has basically been wasted due to inadequacies with parts. It just takes a little more time, care and attention rather than having to rush everything out last minute.

If I made the same mistakes as a composition student, I wouldn't hear the end of it working with professional performers and my piece may not even be able to be played as people can quite happily refuse if the parts are wrong.

Just get the parts right first time and then there wouldn't be such an issue.

Thanks, rant over!

How are you getting on with the rewritten score Sarah?

I now see that 4barsrest.com have cleared up any query there may have been.
